How this salary to hourly calculator works

The math is straightforward and fully visible.

Annual hours = hours per week x weeks per year

Hourly rate = annual pay / annual hours

Weekly pay (hourly mode) = (hourly rate x regular hours) + (hourly rate x overtime multiplier x overtime hours)

  • Bi-weekly pay uses two weeks of pay.
  • Semi-monthly pay assumes 24 pay periods per year.
  • Monthly pay is annual pay divided by 12.

  • Hourly rate = $60,000 / 2,080 = $28.85.
  • Weekly pay = $60,000 / 52 = $1,153.85.

Hourly to salary with overtime

$22 per hour, 40 regular hours, 5 overtime hours, 1.5x overtime, 52 weeks.

  • Weekly pay = (22 x 40) + (22 x 1.5 x 5) = $1,045.
  • Annual pay = $1,045 x 52 = $54,340.
  • Bi-weekly pay = $1,045 x 2 = $2,090.

Use 52 for a full year of pay. If you have unpaid time off or seasonal work, reduce the weeks per year to match the weeks you are actually paid.

Does this use 2,080 or 2,087 hours?

The calculator lets you set hours per week and weeks per year. 2,080 hours comes from 40 hours x 52 weeks, while some federal overtime rules reference 2,087 hours. Use the values that match your employer's policy.
