Our Honest Approach

The truth about ads, data, and how we keep this free

Hi, I'm Aaron—Let's Talk About Ads

Look, I get it. Ads are annoying. If you run an adblocker or decline cookies, I completely understand. Seriously. I appreciate you using the tools either way.

But here's the reality: hosting isn't free, and I'd rather keep these calculators available to everyone than lock them behind a paywall. So I use Media.net for advertising—but I want to be crystal clear about what that means.

What Media.net Actually Does

Media.net serves contextual ads—they look at the page content ("mortgage calculator") and show relevant ads (mortgage offers). Here's what data gets used:

  • Basic cookies: Small files that remember you saw an ad, so you don't see it 50 times
  • Page context: What calculator you're using (to show relevant ads)
  • Anonymous metrics: General stats like "someone clicked this ad" (not "Aaron Smith clicked this")

What they don't do: follow you around the web building a profile, sell your data to data brokers, or track your calculations. Your mortgage numbers, BMI results, or whatever you calculate never leaves your device.

My Commitment

I also use Plausible.io for basic analytics (just page views—no personal data, no cookies). The code is open source on GitHub. And if you decline cookies or block ads? The calculators work exactly the same. I built them to be functional first, monetized second.

Bottom line: I could make more money with aggressive tracking. I could protect privacy better with a subscription. I'm choosing the middle path—free tools, minimal ads, maximum transparency. You decide if that works for you.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about CalcWise

Are these calculators really free to use?

Yes, completely free. No subscriptions, no hidden fees, no "free trial" nonsense. I built CalcWise to be accessible to everyone. The site runs on minimal advertising (which you can block if you want), and that's enough to keep the lights on.

Do I need to create an account or sign up?

Nope. No accounts, no emails, no passwords to remember. Just open the calculator you need and start using it. I don't want your personal information—I just want to provide tools that work.

What data do you collect from me?

Your calculations: Nothing. All calculations happen in your browser. I never see what you input or what results you get.

Analytics: I use Plausible.io to see basic stats like "100 people visited the mortgage calculator today." No personal data, no cookies, completely anonymous.

Advertising cookies: Media.net uses minimal cookies for ad delivery (frequency capping, basic metrics). You can decline these or use an adblocker—the calculators work either way.

Are the calculations accurate?

Yes. I use industry-standard formulas and test everything thoroughly. For financial calculators, I provide estimates based on standard calculations—but always consult a professional for major decisions. For math and conversions, the results are mathematically precise. The code is open source on GitHub if you want to verify the formulas yourself.

Can I use these calculators on my phone?

Absolutely. Every calculator is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops. They're built with mobile users in mind—no pinching, zooming, or frustration. Just fast, functional tools wherever you need them.

What if I use an adblocker?

That's totally fine. I mean it. The calculators are built to work regardless of whether you see ads or not. I'd appreciate the support if you whitelist the site, but I get why people use adblockers. Your choice, no judgment.

Is the code really open source?

Yes. Everything is on GitHub. You can review the code, suggest improvements, report bugs, or fork it for your own projects. Transparency isn't just a buzzword here—it's how I operate.

Who runs CalcWise?

Just me—Aaron. I'm a developer who got tired of calculator sites that track everything, load slowly, and hide functionality behind paywalls. CalcWise is my answer: fast tools, minimal data collection, maximum transparency. If you have questions or feedback, reach out on the contact page.
